Daniel J. Samnik, Operations and Business Development Consultant

Ronald SamnikDan is the driving force in the first business he and his father launched, Father and Son Landscaping and Property Management. As Vice President of Operations his responsibilities include strategic planning, operations and business growth and development. Dan’s affinity for operations and customer relations management is complimented by his innate marketing and sales skills. He is the reason Father and Son has become a strong competitor in the Northeast Ohio market.

As a young boy Dan was intrigued by the construction industry. He played with every Tonka Toy truck, bulldozer and backhoe on the sand pile dreaming of doing this all his life. At this young age he knew what he wanted to do and vowed to make his dream come true. Little did he know how soon that would be?

While still a sophomore at Mentor High School and playing division one varsity football, his father approached him with a business idea that would come close to his dream. His father suggested starting a landscaping company. Dan was sold on the idea and immediately! He saw the potential to use heavy equipment when he would expand the business into lawn, retaining wall and patio installations.

So, without a business plan, equipment or financing in place Dan and his father launched Father and Son Landscaping And Home Maintenance. On a sunny Saturday morning in May of 2003 they began to pass out 500 flyers they had printed up. With in 1 hour they had their first call to bid requests and their first lawn mowing customer by the end of the day. On Monday they bought a trailer, commercial mower, string trimmer and back-pack blower and set out on the road to success towing it with his mother’s Chevy Blazer. Eight years later the rest is history.

After Dan graduated from high school in June 2005 he concentrated all his efforts on achieving his dream. He has grown the business from twelve residential clients in a small corner of Lake County to over 75 residential, commercial, industrial and municipal clients covering all of Lake County as well as parts of Cuyahoga and Geauga Counties. Dan has expanded the services offered, as he envisioned, to include lawn installations, landscape design and build, patio and retaining wall installations as well as snow and ice control.

Dan attributes a good portion of his success to two pieces of advice his father gave him. First, “Keep It Simple and Straightforward” despite the complications of the daily challenges. Second, use “Make the Cash Register Ring” as you daily business plan.

Now that he and his father have gained some expertise in launching and growing a successful business over the last eight years, they felt it was time to share this knowledge with others. That is why Dan and his father, Ron, launched FSBA (Father and Son Business Advisors) in May of 2011.
